Please remember, kiteboarding is an extreme sport and has its dangers. Attempting to launch a kite without qualified instruction is dangerous.

The progression time difference between students after 3 lessons is similar to a self starter after between 1-2 months.

If you have a surfing, windsurfing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, paragliding or skateboarding background you may not need as much instruction but the Level 1 is invaluable and will save you many frustrating hours and pain, it will also leave your mates free to ride without concern for you.

Setting up with your own equipment is a relatively expensive exercise. Most of your mates learnt on old school gear which is difficult to sell and partly why they wish for you to learn. Each year kites are becoming safer, easier to fly and relaunch, and have a much larger wind range. It is advised to take lessons before purchasing gear, once you understand the sport a little better yourself you can then make an informed decision of which kite will best suit you.

Nb, Students progress at different speeds depending on background. All students progress quicker with qualified instruction and “headzone helmets”.
